Military helicopter crashes, no casualties reported

BINH THUAN (VNS) — A military helicopter crashed as it was about to land on Phu Quy Island off the central province of Binh Thuan this morning (March 26). No casualties were reported.

Eight people were on board, including four crew members and four search and rescue workers, who were able to walk out of the crashed helicopter.

Three people were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries, according to local authorities.

The Mi-8, a Soviet-era medium twin-turbine helicopter, crashed at 9:15am just outside Phu Quy Airport.

The tail of the aircraft fell off the aircraft and other pieces of the helicopter were found on the ground, damaging residents' houses.

The helicopter was flying from the neighbouring province of Ninh Thuan on a search and rescue mission.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. — VNS
