DA NANG (VNS) — Son Tra-Ngu Hanh Son Forest Protection Department rangers are working to capture a male monkey (Macaca leonia) that bit some tourists, an official said on Thursday.
The monkey bit tourists on the Ban Co Mountain in Son Tra peninsula when they tried to feed it.
"We tried to capture it, but it was difficult to approach the animal," said Le Phuoc Bay, deputy head of the department. "He will probably starve because there is no food in the area."
Bui Van Tuan, a biologist from GreenViet, a centre for biodiversity conservation, said the monkey was outside of its natural habitat and would have to be transported in a cage.
He explained that tourists would continue to annoy the monkey by trying to feed it.
"These monkeys are very aggressive, and any overtures from humans might trigger defensive actions," Tuan said. — VNS
