HA NOI (VNS) — The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information under the Ministry of Information and Communications has ordered three television service providers to stop transmission of nine unlicensed channels.

This was revealed to the Vietnam News Agency by the ministry's Deputy Head Truong Minh Tuan this afternoon.

According to Tuan, the nine channels that will be suspended are all foreign ones, including True Sport HD, OPT1, Golf HD, Russia Today, True Tennis HD and four other channels that were being broadcast on a trial basis.

The companies that broadcast the channels in question are Viet Nam Television Cable Corporation (VTVCab), Audio Visual Global (AVG) and the military-run Viettel Corporation.

The official said the companies' act of broadcasting these channels without a licence constituted a grave violation of press laws.

In addition to stopping the transmission of the unlicensed channels, the Authority has also demanded that the violating companies submit detailed reports clarifying the sources of the channels, the programmes broadcast on these channels and their related copyrights. — VNS
