QUANG BINH (VNS) — The central Quang Binh province is working hard to distribute 1,200 tonnes of emergency rice, provided by the government, to help stave off hunger in the fallow season.
This delivery of rice has come on the heels of the rice released shortly before the Lunar New Year (Tet), when 1,000 tonnes were distributed among the poor in the province to enable them to enjoy the major holiday.
The beneficiaries this time are the people in the districts of Le Thuy, Quang Ninh, Bo Trach and Quang Trach, as well as Tuyen Hoa, Minh Hoa and Dong Hoi City.
Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, head of the provincial department of labour, war invalids and social affairs' division of social patronage, said the distribution of such a large amount of rice to a wide range of beneficiaries scattered over an extensive area was a challenging job.
However, to prevent hunger, her department has agreed with the State Reserve for Binh Tri Thien Region – the agency that maintains an emergency rice reserve in the region – to ramp up efforts to finish the distribution of rice by April 1.— VNS
