HA NOI (VNS) — The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs re-confirmed on Saturday that no Vietnamese citizens died in the March 11 fire at the Admiral Trade Centre in Kazan city, Russian Republic of Tatarstan.

It noted that the embassy had earlier announced on Friday that no Vietnamese were killed in the fire, though one Vietnamese suffered a broken bone and was hospitalised one day earlier, while two other Vietnamese were treated for slight injuries.

Ministry officials said the embassy was working with Kazan authorities and Russia's Federal Migration Service to assist the local Vietnamese community.

The Admiral Trade Centre hosts 1,274 booths, including those of Vietnamese nationals.

The fire has so far claimed at least 16 lives, while some 18 other victims are believed buried in the ruins, according to officials at the Russian Emergencies Ministry. — VNS
