QUANG BINH (VNS) — The first-ever road toll system that does not require vehicles to stop for tickets will be launched on April 30 in the central Quang Binh Province.

The trial run of the electronic toll system on a section of National Highway 1A in the province began today, after an inauguration ceremony by the transport ministry.

Vehicles will get an e-tag with a code that can read by scanners when they pass the toll gates.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hong Truong said that two toll sections of this type would be installed in the central Nghe An Province and the Dak Nong Province in Central Highlands. If they were successful over a period of operation, the ministry would install 35 more in localities across the country, including expressways, the ministry official said.

The automatic toll gates are expected to provide several benefits, including reduction of waiting time for people and manpower costs, elimination of corruption in the field and saving of fuel. — VNS
