Overseas VN to receive language training

Update: March, 07/2015 - 08:56
HA NOI (VNS)  — Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has asked relevant agencies to take concrete measures that will increase access to Vietnamese language education for Viet Kieu (overseas Vietnamese) residents.

They should encourage authorities in countries that are home to a large a number of Vietnamese nationals to include the Vietnamese language, culture and history in school curricula, he said.

The Foreign Ministry has been told to co-ordinate with relevant agencies and compile a report on teaching the Vietnamese language to Viet Kieu and other expatriates in Laos and Cambodia. The report should be submitted to the Prime Minister.

There are roughly 4.5 overseas Vietnamese nationals living in 109 countries and territories, Vu Hong Nam, Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, told the Vietnam News Agency recently. — VNS
