HA TINH (VNS) – Police in the central province of Ha Tinh on Tuesday arrested four suspects, who were allegedly masterminding an arrangement that helped people flee abroad illegally, according to the provincial police.

The arrest was a result of the joint efforts made by the Police Department of Criminal Investigation in Social Order (PC45) branch in the province, the provincial police and the Can Loc District's Police.

After a detailed investigation and following the suspects, the forces narrowed in on a vehicle with the plate number 38B – 005.20 on Monday afternoon, which is owned by the Minh Ha bus service provider, based in Ha Tinh City, reported the Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Sai Gon) newspaper.

Following this, they immediately arrested four people, who were allegedly masterminding an operation that planned to enable 58 people to flee abroad illegally.

The persons arrested are: 23-year-old Le Van Giang, a resident of the Ky Hop commune, 45-year-old Nguyen Tien Tung from the Ky Tay commune and 27-year-old Nguyen Xuan Bac and 22-year-old Hoang Trong Linh from the Ky Tan Commune. All of them were living in Ha Tinh Province's Ky Anh District.

Initially, the accused told the police that they had become acquainted with some people in China while working there. Returning to Viet Nam, they found that many local residents wanted to work abroad and earn a high income, so they had intended to help them to cross the border to enter and work illegally in China.

To enter China, they had required each person to deposit between VND6 and 8 million (US$280 to $370). Within a short period of time, they had successfully gathered 58 people and earned hundreds of millions of dong in the process.

They later hired a passenger bus to transport these people to Mong Cai, Quang Ninh Province, and waited for the right time to help them flee to China.
