HA NOI (VNS) — The Ha Noi People's Committee has been urged to invest more in waste treatmentl.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai was speaking during a visit to the Nam Son Waste Treatment Complex in Soc Son District, the biggest area for treating the city's solid waste.

The complex receives about 5,400 tonnes of solid waste daily. However, 70 per cent is buried.

Vice chairman of the committee Vu Hong Khanh said that the complex was likely to receive up to 7,500 tonnes of solid waste per day during Tet (Lunar New Year).

Hai said that the committee should develop waste-treatment chains to handle the 60,000 tonnes of all types of waste created every day in the city.

Hai also asked the committee to build green barriers separating waste treatment areas from residential areas.

Ha Noi plans to open two waste-treatment areas in Phu Xuyen and Chuong My districts. By 2030, the city is expected to have a total of 17 waste-treatment areas. — VNS
