HA NOI (VNS) – Russia's International Academy of System Studies (IASS) presented two awards to academician Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan in Ha Noi on Wednesday.

The Vnexpress online newspaper reported that the awards -- one for the academician's outstanding achievements in the 2004-2014 period, and the Vernadski Star – have been given to Nhan in recognition of her efforts, in collaboration with her associates, in applying 32 of the world's most advanced technologies successfully in Viet Nam.

These modern technologies included the treatment of wastewater, especially from hospitals and urban areas, purification of agricultural soil contaminated with residual pesticides and chemicals, including dioxins, and the improvement of training and application of information technology (IT) advances.

IASS awards, which are granted once over a period of 10 years , aim to honour scientists worldwide for their extraordinary achievements and special contributions in all scientific fields.

The awards ceremony, held by the Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology and the Vietnam Women's Union, was attended by Political Bureau member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, representatives of relevant ministries and leaders of Bac Ninh Province, the academician's homeland. — VNS
