HA NOI (VNS) — The Ministry of Transport is calling for financial assistance from enterprises and philanthropists to build more bridges in remote and poor areas.
The programme aims to build over 4,000 bridges by 2017 at a total cost of VND8.3 trillion (US$389 million). So far 127 businesses have donated VND310 billion ($14.7 million) to the scheme.
The construction of 186 suspension bridges has already begun in extremely difficult-to-reach areas in 20 mountainous provinces in northern, central and Central Highlands regions.
Around 86 bridges are scheduled for completion ahead of Tet (lunar new year) and the remainder is set to be finished before the flooding season this year. — VNS
