HA NOI (VNS) — The Ha Noi police team fighting smuggling and banned goods on Tuesday said that they have caught two persons for allegedly smuggling about 30kg of gold jewellery from Hong Kong.

Bui Thi Loan, 58, from the northern Quang Ninh Province, and Co Kien Son, 42, were caught in the act in the parking lot of the Metro supermarket on Pham Van Dong Road on Sunday. The two were receiving 33 packages of gold jewellery worth US$1 million.

These packages contained more than 4,300 jewellery pieces such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings and other items, which had all been smuggled from Hong Kong, the police said.

Initial investigation showed that the cargo was smuggled into Viet Nam through Quang Ninh Province's Mong Cai Town.
