CA MAU (VNS) – A watermelon plantation covering 1,200 hectares in the southernmost province of Ca Mau had been hit by unseasonable rain over the last few days, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Most of the fruit has been lost, with losses estimated at over VND3 billion (US$141,000).

The rain also flooded an additional 3,000 hectares of other agricultural produce, causing significant losses to shrimp farmers in the province.

The unprecedented weather patterns have led to huge farming losses, floods and traffic congestion. — VNS
