QUANG NGAI (VNS) – The Steering Committee for Animal Disease Prevention destroyed 12,000 quails infected with the H5N6 avian flu virus strain yesterday in the central province of Quang Ngai's Son Tinh District.

The quails were all raised by local farmer Pham Hoang Diep, who reported to local veterinarians on Sunday that some of his birds had died with no apparent cause.

Tests results showed that the birds had A/H5N6. Veterinarians from the neighbouring city of Da Nang came to help sterilize Diep's farm to contain the contagious disease.

This outbreak was the fifth one in Quang Ngai this year.
