Five children drown across weekend

BINH DUONG  (VNS) — At least five children drowned in three separate incidents across the country on Saturday.

The first accident happened in the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang, when five students went swimming in a spring in Nam Tuan Commune.

The group had life preservers, but only two managed to escape, while the swift current swept away the other three. Their bodies were recovered soon afterwards.

The second accident happened in southern Binh Duong Province when a nine-year-old boy was swept into a wastewater drainage pipe due to heavy rain in Thuan Giao Commune. His body has not been recovered.

The third claimed the life of a seven-year-old boy in the province's Tan Hiep Commune, whose body was found in a wastewater drainage pipe. — VNS
