Rain destroys houses in Dong Thap

DONG THAP (VNS)— Prolonged heavy rains coupled with whirlwinds destroyed or unroofed hundreds of houses in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap's Thap Muoi District on Thursday.

An initial survey showed that 47 houses collapsed and 180 lost their roofs. The rains also destroyed crops. Damage is estimated at billions of dong.

Provincial authorities have set aside VND200 million (US$9,500) to help local residents.— VNS
