HA NOI (VNS) — The self-reliance of the world's southernmost nations is the main focus of a seminar organised by the Viet Nam Peace and Development Foundation and the South-South People's Solidarity Network in Ha Noi.
Speaking at the opening ceremony yesterday, foundation president Nguyen Thi Binh said that the event aimed to identify challenges and opportunities southern countries were facing under globalisation.
Nadja Charaby, director of Rosa Luxembourg Stiftung Viet Nam, highlighted challenges southern countries faced and ways to strengthen their solidarity and maintain connectivity between the world's northern and southern nations.
Domestic and international delegates are expected to propose measures to safeguard the independence and self-reliance of southern nations and ensure their sustainable development.
During the two-day seminar, scientists and scholars from Southeast Asia, Asia, Latin America and Europe will also focus on the impact of the world economic order on the economic development of southern countries.
The South-South network is for progressive social organisations and movements in Africa, Asia, Caribbean and Latin America that are struggling for a world of peace, security, equality and sustainable development. — VNS
