PM launches national science day

HA NOI (VNS) — Science and technology must drive economic restructuring, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said.

Dung said this was to improve productivity, quality and competitiveness so that the nation could quickly become industrialised.

The PM was speaking in Ha Noi yesterday at the launching of Viet Nam National Science and Technology Day.

He urged the sector to focus on achieving the resolution on science and technology development adopted at the sixth plenum of the eleventh Party Central Committee in 2012.

The PM said that the development of science and technology was a national priority for development - and defence.

He added that social sciences and humanities should be developed vigorously while basic sciences such as mathematics, physics, life and marine sciences should be also enhanced.

The Government leader spoke of the importance of mobilising social resources, especially from the business circle. to strengthen scientific and technological capacity.

He added that a national database on science and technology should be built to connect demand and supply on new products. — VNS
