Authorities deny water poisoning rumours

THANH HOA (VNS) — The Thanh Hoa provincial authorities yesterday said that no trace of poison or heavy metals had been found in the water drunk by the workers of a footwear factory.

Speaking at a press conference, they dismissed speculation that the workers of the Taiwanese Hong Fu Company, Ltc., in the province had been poisoned.

According to initial reports, 735 workers were rushed to hospital on Thursday with symptoms of nausea, dizziness and convulsions, after reportedly drinking water at the factory.

By yesterday afternoon, most of them had recovered and were sent home in the evening.

Further investigations are being conducted. – VNS
