Drug smugglers arrested in Lai Chau

LAI CHAU (VNS) — Border police in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau caught a H'Mong ethnic man smuggling 600g of opium in Tung Qua Lin border commune's Co Ky village on Sunday.

Sung A Lu, 30, allegedly said he bought the drugs from a man in Sin Ho district for VND30 million (US$1,420).

On the same day, the local police also caught another H'Mong ethnic man illegally transporting 200g of opium in Tung Qua Lin commune's Pay Ho village.

Hau A Chao, 40, from Phong Tho District, allegedly said he had bought the opium from an unknown man in Sin Ho border district for VND6 million ($285).

The two men will face prosecution on the ground of drug trafficking, the police say. — VNS
