HA NOI (VNS)— National carrier Vietnam Airlines suspended one co-pilot and four flight attendants on Thursday on suspicion of smuggling stolen goods in carry-on luggage from Japan to Viet Nam.
The five crew members have been instructed to give statements regarding the allegations. On Monday, Japanese media reported that Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, a 25-year-old Vietnam Airlines flight attendant, was arrested by Japanese police.
She was accused of carrying 21 items of stolen clothing worth 125,000 Japanese yen (US$1,200) on a special VNA bus from a hotel in Osaka Prefecture to Kansai International Airport last September, according to media reports.
In an announcement, Vietnam Airlines said the airline would work closely with the Japanese police and other relevant agencies to support the investigation.
The airline's branch in Tokyo has already provided information to the police.
"Vietnam Airlines hopes to work with the Japanese police and receive support from other relevant agencies to deal with this case and ensure these cases do not happen in the future to protect our status as the national carrier," the announcement said. — VNS
