DONG THAP (VNS)— The Dong Thap Province's People's Court yesterday delayed the trial on the illegal exploitation of sand from the Tien River in Hong Ngu District due to an insufficient number of witnesses.

The 11 people charged for "violating regulations on exploring and exploiting natural resources" and showing a "lack of responsibility and causing serious consequences" on exploiting sand were present at the court yesterday.

Defendants included former secretaries of the Party Committee's Hong Ngu District and former chairman of the district's People's Committee.

Before the trial, lawyers representing the defendants said that only 15 out of 25 witnesses were present. — VNS
