HCM CITY (VNS) — The Tra Vinh Province Women's Union has organised a free vocational training programme for poor Khmer women in the province with an investment of VND300 million (US$14,247).
Under the project, which creates jobs for the women during the 2010-2015 period, 10 vocational training classes will be organised for nearly 300 poor Khmer women.
The programme aims to ensure that the women will have stable jobs after the training.
The provincial women's union worked with businesses and factories last year to organise 29 vocational training classes for 727 poor Khmer women, with a subsidy of VND930 million ($44,174) from the Viet Nam Women's Union and the province.
During the two-month programme last year, the women received VND780,000 ($37) each for meals.
Last year, 25 women were placed in jobs with an average income of VND2.5 million ($118) per month. — VNS
