HCM City (VNS) — Nine Vietnamese fishermen who were rescued on the East Sea on Tuesday landed at HCM City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport on Saturday.

They are reported to be in good health.

Tran Dac Thien, captain of the ship, said the fishermen were brought to Hong Kong by a cargo ship on Saturday.

Earlier, their boat sunk after being struck by an unknown ship while they were fishing in the Con Dao Island area.

While in Hong Kong, the fishermen received help from the Vietnamese Consulate General and local agencies to assist their returning home within the day.

Ship owner Nguyen Thanh Thuan said the loss of his ship is estimated at VND900 million (US$43,300). He also said all fishermen on board at the time of the sinking have returned home safely. — VNS
