DONG NAI (VNS) – Police in the southern province of Dong Nai's Bien Hoa City yesterday began prosecutions following the theft of 1,000 cases of beer earlier this month.

The police have summoned for questioning some 10 people.

According to officials, the incident occurred last Wednesday when a lorry carrying about 1,500 cases of beer, each with 24 cans, from HCM City to Binh Thuan Province lost control at Tam Hiep Boundary in Bien Hoa City. Some 1,000 cases of Tiger beer fell from the truck and onto the road, while dozens of local residents swarmed the area and carried off the cases of beer.

Local media reported that the driver was facing a bill of VND270 million (US$12,800) in payment to the company for the beer. — VNS
