QUANG NINH (VNS)— Four people in the northern Quang Ninh Province were reported to have died between December 2-4 after drinking alcohol made from sticky rice.

The victims, three of whom were from Cam Pha City and one from Ha Long City, had drunk the wine, labeled as Ha Noi and made-of-sticky-rice alcohol produced by the Ha Noi 29 Import Export JSC, said director of Quang Ninh Province's Department of Health Vu Xuan Dien during an urgent meeting yesterday.

The wine was said to have been part of an October 12 batch.

Province authorities later tested samples of the wine and discovered that its methanol content exceeded the allowed limit by 2,000 times.

Local authorities have confiscated all wine products made on October 12 for further investigation, Dien said.—VNS
