Tien Giang to build 600 storm shelters

TIEN GIANG (VNS)— The southern province of Tien Giang plans to build 600 additional storm shelters for local households.

According to the provincial Department of Irrigation and Flood and Storm Prevention, the shelters will be built in Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Dong districts.

The new facilities brings to 1,100 the total shelters in the two districts' 11 coastal communes. Each storm shelter, made from reinforced concrete, holds from 4-6 people, and is worth some VND17 million (US$809).

As the department said, about 600 poor households in the two districts' coastal communes have received funding from the province to build the shelters. — VNS
