A Ha Noi police official said yesterday that initial investigations showed the victim had died after undergoing surgery at the centre, located in Giai Phong Street, Hai Ba Trung District, on Saturday.
The woman's husband told police his wife had gone missing after leaving home last Saturday.
Tuong said the victim underwent breast surgery at the centre on Saturday morning. After six hours of surgery, she started to convulse.
Tuong said he directed his employees to give emergency aid to the victim, but she did not recover.
He then used a car to carry the victim's body to Thanh Tri bridge in Thanh Tri District. Together with the centre's guard, he threw her body into the river.
According to police, Tuong asked his employees to clear or clean all related evidence, such as surgery tools, computers and documents.
Police are working with local authorities in the search for the victim's body.
Ten employees working at the surgery centre have been subpoenaed for further investigation.
The centre opened in April this year with more than 20 employees. While it has a business licence, it is yet to receive a permit for cosmetic surgery from the municipal health department.
The department's chief inspector, Nguyen Viet Cuong, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the centre had advertised and conducted many cosmetic operations without license.—VNS
