HA NOI (VNS ) — The Ministry of Justice last Thursday requested the Ministry of Public Security check the legality of a residential data collection form distributed by Ha Noi Police in some areas in the city.

The Ministry of Justice's Administration Procedure Management Department director Ngo Hai Phan said that the form, which included 32 questions intended to clarify the number of permanent and temporary residents and foreigners, had created public concern.

Residents were upset at being asked to provide personal data such as mobile phone numbers and email addresses without knowing how it would be used.

Nguyen Phong Anh, a resident of Thanh Xuan District, said that he was very surprised when local police gave him the form.

"I had to declare personal data such as email and working addresses, mobile phone number and what foreign languages I spoke. I do not know what purpose the data will be used for," Anh said.

Many other residents in Thanh Xuan and Dong Da districts did not want to fill in their marital status or occupation.

The Ministry of Justice's Phan said that his ministry would rework the project.

In the third quarter of this year, Phan's department checked 527 legal documents, including 182 issued by ministries and sectors, and found that more than 100 were flawed. — VNS
