PHU THO (VNS) — More than 1,300 households and offices suffered losses in the fireworks factory blast last Saturday morning in the northern province of Phu Tho.

The blast at the Z121 military factory run by the Department of Defence Industry, affected three communes in neighbouring Khai Xuan, Vo Lao and Dong Thanh. The blast killed 23 people and injured nearly 100 others. Damage is estimated at VND52 billion ($2.47 million).

Initial investigations showed that a technical fault led to the explosion. Fire then spread to an estimated 17,000 boxes of stored fireworks.
