DIEN BIEN (VNS)— More than 4,100 tonnes of rice from State reserves will be given to 30,600 students in disadvantaged areas in northern Dien Bien Province this school year.

The move is to encourage students to attend school by reducing their difficulties.

Each day-boarder will receive 15 kilos of rice a month for nine months, the province's Education and Training Department director, Le Van Quy said.

Dien Bien is one of the poorest provinces in Viet Nam. It has poor infrastructure and is located in mountainous terrain. Students often have to travel long distances to school. -- VNS
