Japanese lecturer killed in traffic accident

HCM CITY (VNS)– A Japanese lecturer from the HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities was killed while travelling home yesterday afternoon when she was struck by a bus at a bus station near HCM City's Ben Thanh Market.

50-year-old Kakinuma Joji, who was using crutches at the time, was crossing the street near Quach Thi Trang Roundabout to catch a bus to her home in District 7 when she fell down and was run over by the bus. She died on the scene.

The lecturer of Oriental Studies, who has lived in HCM City for the past six years, had to take two buses for her daily commute between her home and HCM City University. It was reported that the teacher had suffered bone degeneration in her leg, causing her difficulties with walking.

Following the accident, the bus driver left the scene. Police are investigating the accident.--VNS
