Cervical cancer checks begin in poor provinces

HA NOI (VNS)— A cervical cancer screening programme will be provided to 2.5-3 million women in five provinces of Phu Yen, Thanh Hoa, Yen Bai, Nghe An and Thai Binh, where 17-36 per cent of the population lives below the poverty line.

Cervical cancer claims the lives of 5,000 women in Viet Nam annually.

The US$6.9 million project is the second phase of a co-operation programme implemented by the German Development Co-operation (GIZ) and the Ministry of Health's Administration for Medical Services. — VNS
