Whirlwind injures nine in Soc Trang Province

SOC TRANG (VNS)— A whirlwind in Nga Nam District in the Mekong Delta's Soc Trang Province yesterday injured nine people and destroyed 105 houses.

The whirlwind caused estimated damage at around VND15biliion (US$710,500). The district's authorities have spent VND200 million ($9,500) to support families affected by the whirlwind in addition to deploying emergency staff to transport the injured and clean up fallen trees.

In southern Bac Lieu Province, more than 100 houses had roofs blown away by a whirlwind occurring from 6:30am to 8am yesterday morning.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the storm will weaken when it reaches the Viet Nam – China border today. — VNS
