Six die from fumes in factory

DONG THAP (VNS)— Six people died in a workplace accident on Wednesday morning at IDI Fisheries Factory in Lap Vo District.

They included the director, deputy director and four employees of the factory.

The employees had been taking oil samples from inside one of the factory's tanks and were unaware they were inhaling toxic fumes before it was too late.

Their supervisors attempted to go to their aid, but also succumbed to the fumes.

Dang Van An, 28, was the only person to escape from the incident, and is being treated at Lap Vo District's General Hospital.

IDI Fisheries Factories has promised to pay compensation of VND100 million ($4,700) to the families of the dead.

Local police are looking further into the cause of the accident. — VNS
