Month of Action for Children to focus on poor, ethnic kids

Update: May, 29/2013 - 10:09

HA NOI (VNS)— The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) will co-operate with relevant State agencies to run the twentieth annual Month of Action for Children.

The campaign will begin on June 1, International Children's Day, with a ceremony organised by the ministry and the Ha Noi People's Committee.

Throughout the month, underprivileged children will receive gifts and scholarships alongside with dialogues, held by State agencies, on Government policies regarding the care and protection of children.

The Viet Nam Child Fund under MOLISA aims to raise VND50 billion (US$2.4 million) from domestic and international sponsors to support disadvantaged children throughout the nation.

The fund reported that sponsors already planned to provide about VND9 billion (more than $430,000) next month.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism asked public playgrounds and cultural centres for children to offer discounts of at least 20 per cent in June to mark the campaign. — VNS
