HA NOI (VNS)— An international seminar on "Vietnamese linguistics in the context of renewal and integration" was held in Ha Noi on Saturday.

The event was attended by Vietnamese linguists, representatives from local universities and agencies as well as delegates from the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, mainland China, Japan and Laos.

Participants assessed the basic and urgent issues facing Vietnamese linguistics and made plans for the future development of the area.

Among the linguistic areas discussed at the seminar were the phonology, lexicon, semantics and morphology of Vietnamese and other languages; the relationship between language and culture; the impacts of urbanisation and international integration on Vietnamese; the languages of ethnic groups and foreign languages in the industrialisation period. — VNS
