HCM City (VNS)– Customs officers and border police at HCM City's Tan Son Nhat Airport seized 7.28kg of African rhino horns being illegally smuggled into Viet Nam on Saturday night.

The horns were found wrapped in layers of silver paper in the suitcase of a 34-year-old Vietnamese man flying from Qatar to HCM City, according to customs officials.

The import of rhino horns is prohibited because the animals are listed as an endangered species, following the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

The rhino horn was handed over to economic police for further investigation.—VNS
