Steering Committee set up for island healthcare

HA NOI (VNS)— The Prime Minister signed a decision on Friday to establish a national steering committee for sea and island healthcare.

Headed by Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien with Deputy Minister of Defence Le Huu Duc as deputy head, the committee will be responsible for assisting the Government and Prime Minister to develop healthcare in these areas.

The committee will be allowed to mobilise forces and medical equipment in case of emergency. It will also supervise the implementation of a project on sea and island healthcare development until 2020.

President sends condolences to family of drowned hero

HA NOI — President Truong Tan Sang extended a letter of condolences to the family of schoolboy Nguyen Van Nam, 18, who died after saving five children from drowning.

In the letter, sent on Friday, the President said he was very moved with Nam's brave sacrifice and stressed that Nam had set an example for adolescents nationwide.

Nam was a twelfth-grade student at Do Luong 1 High School in Trung Son Commune, Do Luong district, central Nghe An Province. — VNS
