More than 100 die on roads during long weekend

HA NOI (VNS)– More than 100 people died in traffic accidents throughout Viet Nam during the five-day holiday to mark Liberation and May Day.

According to the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department, during the period, 240 serious traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing at least 110 people and injuring 185.

In central Thua Thien Hue Province, six passengers died and another seven were injured after a container truck and coach collided.

Police reported that they handled 41,000 traffic violations during the holidya weekend.

Fines totalling more than VND20 billion (US$960,000) were collected. Most violations involved overloaded coaches and speeding.—VNS
