HA NOI (VNS)— Ha Noi will forceably remove residents who won't hand over their land for the construction of a section of ring road No 1 in Dong Da District.

Project management board director Nguyen Si Bao said the board would work with the District's People's Committee to clear land for the section from O Cho Dua junction to Hoang Cau Street, which is scheduled for completion in the second quarter.

Seventy-seven of the 477 families to be relocated had refused compensation because they did not agree with the amount plus other matters regarding land origin and the resettlement plan.

VND624 billion (US$30 million) out of VND743.5 billion ($35.7 million) reserved for compensation has so far been paid to 400 households.

The project was approved by the municipal People's Committee in April 2008.

Upon completion this year, the ring road will be 547m long and 50m wide with drainage, trees and lighting.

The families will be forced to move from early June.

Bao said when the ring road is completed, the city will build a flyover bridge at the O Cho Dua traffic bottleneck, at an estimated cost of VND766 billion, to be completed in 2015. — VNS
