Nearly one hundred people arrested for gambling in Ha Noi

HA NOI (VNS)– Dozens of arrests were made after the Criminal Police Bureau under the Ministry of Public Security co-ordinated with local police officers to bust an illegal gambling operation yesterday in Soc Son District.

During the raid at 1:30pm yesterday, police arrested 64 people including 31 women, confiscated more than VND1 billion (US$48,000) and seized several different kinds of weapons.

The raid targeted a building in Tan Dan Village, where nealy 100 gamblers were making illegal bets on a simple dice game called xoc dia. Panicked by the arrival of police officers, some gamblers fled by jumping into a nearby river, but were still apprehended by pursuing officers.

According to a report, the gambling operation has been active for a long time. Gamblers are picked up at the Thu Hoa Coffee shop along Highway No.2.

The men thought to be behind the gambling operation, Nguyen Van Tu and Huong, escaped. Police are continuing investigations into the case.--VNS
