Building begins on major flyovers

Update: February, 07/2013 - 00:00

HA NOI (VNS) — Construction of two flyovers started yesterday in Ha Noi at the intersections of Kim Ma – Nguyen Chi Thanh and Dai Co Viet – Tran Khat Chan.

The VND360.5 billion (US$17 million) flyover across Kim Ma will have two lanes running in both directions. The bridge will be 278m in length and 16m wide.

Construction investment for the Dai Co Viet project is estimated at VND181 billion ($8.6 million). The flyover will be 352m long and 11m wide.

Both flyovers, expected to ease traffic congestion during rush hours, are scheduled for completion in October this year.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee Nguyen The Thao asked the municipal Department of Transport, city police, and district People's Committees to co-operate and ensure construction quality and labour safety.

Traffic order around the construction sites must also be monitored, he added.

Thao urged contractors to avoid waste and losses during the project's construction and ensure it was finished on time. — VNS
