Reactionary expelled from Viet Nam

HCM CITY (VNS)— Vietnamese authorities yesterday decided to expel Nguyen Quoc Quan from the country.

Quan, a US national born in Ha Noi on November 20 1953, was a member of the exiled reactionary organisation Viet Tan.

On April 17 last year, the Investigation Security Agency under the Ministry of Public Security arrested Quan in HCM City on a charge of carrying out activities aimed at overthrowing the people's administration under Article 79 of Viet Nam's Penal Code.

The agency also seized many documents showing his illegal activities. Quan pleaded guilty and pleaded for clemency so that he could return to the US and reunite with his family. — VNS
