QUANG NINH (VNS)— Customs officers in the northern province of Quang Ninh seized nearly 300 kilos of illegally imported firecrackers and two motorbikes on Tuesday.
Two suspects, who were illegally transporting the made-in-China firecrackers, escaped. The case is under investigation.
The production, trade and use of firecrackers have been banned in Viet Nam since 1994 for safety reasons. The Prime Minister recently renewed his call for local governments to clamp down on any activity related to firecrackers as the Tet (lunar new year) festival approaches. — VNS
