Direct EU aid said to be ‘a first'

Update: December, 01/2012 - 10:13

HA NOI (VNS)— A European Union delegation to Viet Nam has announced the signing of nine contracts with five Vietnamese non-government organisations (NGOs) and four European civil society organisations active in Viet Nam.

The total value is US$3.2 million.

This is part of an EU effort to promote non-government participation in supporting local development priorities in poorer provinces, such as health care and poverty reductions activities.

This is the first time that the EU has granted money directly to Vietnamese NGOs. — VNS
