HA NOI (VNS)– More than 100 gamblers were arrested by the police in a gambling den in Ha Noi's neighbouring Bac Ninh province yesterday.

Gambling is illegal in Viet Nam.

The den, allegedly the biggest ever discovered in Viet Nam's northern region, was run by Duong Anh Duc. It has been reported that Duc collected door money from VND500,000 to VND1million per head.

The police confiscated two sacks of money, many mobile phones, computers and fax machines as part of their investigation.

It has been confirmed that half of the gamblers arrested are women.

The police said that the den also doubled as a place for the gamblers to eat and rest, and hundreds visited everyday, while loan sharks were often there lending money on the spot.

The case continues. – VNS
