)— President Truong Tan Sang joined teachers and students at Ha Noi University of Science and Technology, one of the country's leading technology universities, to celebrate National Teachers' Day yesterday.
Sang said he was pleased at the remarkable contributions the university had made to the causes of education and training and national building and defence.
He emphasised that the Party and State's top priority was education and training, since this would drive industrialisation and modernisation.
He urged the university, with its long-standing prestige, to act as a role model for its peers by accomplishing all the missions assigned by the Party and State.
Sang admired the university's goal to become the leading science training and research institute not only in Viet Nam, but in Southeast Asia.
He said that the institution would do well to improve the quality of its training.
"The university can raise its reputation by delivering high-quality education products," he said.
The president pointed out that it was also important to hire competent teachers who possessed high moral standards and create an academic milieu that could make the best of scientists' creativity.
Over the 56 years since its establishment, Ha Noi University of Science and Technology has trained thousands of engineers and conferred thousands of Masters degrees in a wide range of fields.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan also paid a visit to Ha Noi – Amsterdam High School yesterday to congratulate teachers there. — VNS
