Update: July, 20/2012 - 10:30

HCM CITY — Customs officers seized 137kg of elephant tusks at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City on Wednesday evening.

The elephant tusks, valued at nearly US$218,000, were in the luggage of two Vietnamese passengers on flight number TG556 of Thai Airways, the Tan Son Nhat Airport Customs Bureau reported yesterday.

Customs officers said the two passengers did not hand in their immigration and customs-declaration forms.

The passengers did not pick up their luggage, which were left on the conveyor belt at the airport.

The two passengers said the elephant tusks were brought from Angola, via Kenya and Thailand, to Viet Nam, and were to be delivered to a person in HCM City.-VNS
