Efforts to ease traffic jams unsuccessful

Update: June, 20/2012 - 09:51

HA NOI — Traffic jams are continuing to cause huge headaches for motorists despite efforts by authorities to ease congested streets, according to Nguyen Xuan Tan, deputy director of the city Transport Department.

A report by traffic authorities says that 89 traffic jam hot-spots across the capital city are bringing traffic to a halt, and not only during rush hours.

The city aims to reduce congestion hot-spots by at least 20 per cent during the 2012-15 period by improving public transport services and building at least 10 parking lots each year in residential and urban areas. — VNS
